Avtur Prices Rise, Government Arranges Strategies to Reduce Flight Fares
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized that the government is currently arranging strategies to reduce the impact of the increase in flight fares so that it does not burden the community.
This was conveyed by AHY when attending a social service activity at the Catholic Church of St. Andrew, Kedoya, West Jakarta, Sunday, April 12.
"Of course we continue to manage so that there is no too bad impact on the community," said AHY.
The increase in airfare prices was triggered by a surge in the price of jet fuel due to the geopolitical conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel. The situation also impacted the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, which disrupted global energy distribution.
According to AHY, even though the conflict occurred in the Middle East, the impact was widely felt, including by Indonesia. Therefore, the public needs to be aware of the potential for energy crises in the future.
"We are vigilant regarding (the crisis) of energy. Even though it happened in other parts of the world, but what happened in the Middle East, the Iran war and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz certainly need to be anticipated," he said.
He added, the government is currently continuing to work so that the community is not too affected, especially in the transportation sector. Not only related to the increase in air ticket prices, AHY said a similar policy would be applied to all public transportation modes.
"We as the government are trying our best so that the community is not too affected, including transportation costs in the ocean and on land," he said.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto approved adjustments to air ticket prices in line with rising global jet fuel prices.
Airlangga revealed that the price of jet fuel in a number of countries had increased significantly, such as in Thailand which reached Rp. 29,518 per liter and the Philippines at Rp. 25,326 per liter. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, as of April 1, 2026, the price of jet fuel at Soekarno-Hatta Airport was recorded at Rp. 23,551 per liter.
He emphasized that the fuel component has a crucial role in airline operations, with a contribution of around 40% of total travel costs.
