Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Threatens South Sulawesi 3 Days Ahead
MAKASSAR - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region IV Makassar issued an early warning to the public in South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi) to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in the next three days.
"Based on the BMKG weather forecast, the potential for moderate to heavy rain is expected to last from today to April 14, 2026, especially in the Luwu, East Luwu, North Luwu, and North Toraja regions," said BMKG Praktirawan for Region IV Makassar Asriani Idrus, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 13.
He said the BMKG reminded that these conditions could potentially cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides, especially in vulnerable areas.
In addition to heavy rain, the potential for strong winds is predicted to occur in the southern area of South Sulawesi on April 13 to 14, 2026. For daily weather conditions, on April 12 in the morning it is generally cloudy, while in the afternoon to evening it is potentially light rain in most areas of South Sulawesi.
At night, the weather is expected to be cloudy with the potential for light rain in the East Luwu and North Luwu areas, while in the early morning light rain is also likely to occur in Bone, Luwu, East Luwu, North Luwu, Sinjai, and Wajo.
BMKG recorded air temperatures in the South Sulawesi region ranging from 19 to 34 degrees Celsius with air humidity levels reaching 70 to 100 percent and wind speeds ranging from 10 to 30 kilometers per hour from north to east.
In connection with this, BMKG appeals to the public to increase vigilance by ensuring that water channels remain clean and smooth to reduce the risk of flooding.
The public is also asked to avoid traveling to disaster-prone areas, and to store important items in a safe place.
BMKG also reminded the public to always monitor the latest weather information through official channels to anticipate the impact of extreme weather that can occur at any time.
