Menpora Believes E-Sport Tournaments Can Emerge Young Athletes

JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali supports the implementation of an e-sports tournament held by the youth organization of the Indonesian Youth Renewal Forces (AMPI) in East Java. According to him, this kind of tournament will be able to bring out young athletes.

"These are young people who are expected to be able to carry the name of the nation in international e-sport tournaments," said Menpora Zinudin Amali in his statement, Sunday, June 6.

The Menpora Cup esports titled "Youth E-Sport Tournament 2021" has been held since mid-April and is held virtual. The tournament with a total prize of Rp. 200 million was considered a success, and more than 14 thousand teams and around 40 thousand athletes participated in the tournament.

“I once told the committee, if there are less than 10 thousand teams participating, there is no need to use the name Menpora Cup. However, my friends continued to convince me and it was proven that the participants were extraordinary," he said.

In fact, said the Minister of Youth and Sports, the four teams that qualified for the grand final, none from Surabaya was the host, thus proving that the committee was not playful and professional.
