Boosting Creativity and Innovation, Gianyar Regency Government Holds Barista Competition

BALI - As the interest in coffee processing is popular, the Gianyar Regency Government, Bali, held a barista competition. This event is expected to spur the creativity and innovation of young people in the creative economy (ekraf) and MSMEs sectors.

"We want to give space for young people to work and present real innovations," said Acting Secretary of the Youth and Sports Office (Dispora) I Gusti Ngurah Sukadana in Gianyar, quoted by ANTARA on Sunday, April 12.

The barista talent contest was held to welcome the 255th Anniversary of Gianyar which was attended by 76 participants with ages ranging from 16 to 30 years and the bartender technique competition (mixology flair) was attended by 13 participants aged 19 to 30 years which was held at the Lobby of the Gianyar People's Market.

The high participation in the activity, he continued, reflects the great interest of the younger generation in the creative economy, especially in the culinary field.

He explained that the local government places young people as one of the main priorities because they have a strategic role in supporting regional and national development.

Ngurah hopes that this activity will be able to produce young baristas and bartenders who not only have competence, but are also able to introduce typical drinks from Gianyar to the international level.

His party emphasized the importance of synergy between the government, the private sector, and the community in building the quality of young generation human resources.

Meanwhile, the Gianyar Regency Government considers creative economy to be one of the sectors that can encourage regional economic activity and is driven by the younger generation.

In fact, Gianyar opened a barista competence-based training scheduled until the last week of April 2026 for the workforce at the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) of the Gianyar Agricultural, Business and Industrial Training Center (BLK).

The implementation of the training is adjusted to the current labor market needs so that it is expected to reduce the unemployment rate.
