Gresik School Stray Bullet: Marines Open Legal Path, Technical Test, and Compensation for Victims
SURABAYA - The Surabaya 2 Marine Force ensures that the investigation into the alleged stray bullet incident that hit two students at one of the SMP Negeri in Gresik, East Java, is focused on technical tests, expert involvement, and intensive communication with the victims so that the handling is transparent and fair.
The commander of Pasmar 2, Major General TNI (Mar) Oni Junianto, said the examination process is still ongoing, including plans for ballistic tests to trace the possible origin of the projectile.
"Yes, this has now been investigated. There are 119 who will continue to be investigated and will be tested to shoot this bullet as far as it is," said Oni in Surabaya, Antara, Sunday, April 12.
He explained that handling of the victims had been carried out since the beginning of the incident, ranging from treatment, follow-up control, to providing compensation to one of the victim's families.
According to him, the family of the victim with the initials RO has received all the medical support and compensation provided.
Meanwhile, communication with the other victims' families is still being sought so that the settlement process can proceed well.
"Only this Bu Dewi we haven't met. However, we are still open to the opportunity for communication, yes," he said.
To strengthen the results of the investigation, Pasmar 2 will also request technical data from PT Pindad as a reference material in the ballistic test.
"Later, technical data from Pindad will also be requested to strengthen the test so that the results are really accurate," he said.
In addition, a number of independent experts were also involved to assess the aspects of the bullet range, trajectory direction, to safety standards during shooting practice.
On the other hand, the legal process continues through the Military Police of the Regional Command of the Navy (Pomal Kodal), in conjunction with a thorough evaluation of the training procedures that take place at the TNI AL firing range.
Previously, the incident of suspected stray bullets occurred when students were participating in a school socialization activity at one of the SMP Negeri in Gresik on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The two students who were victims were initials DF (14) and RO (15). The location of the school is known to be about 2.3 kilometers from the TNI AL shooting range, which was then being used for routine training.
After the incident, the two victims were immediately rushed to the Siti Khodijah Hospital for intensive care.
