Karawang Police Examines 6 Cases Of Dozens Of Residents Of Gas Poisoning From Leaking Tubes
KARAWANG - The Karawang Police, West Java, investigated six people related to a gas pipe leak belonging to PT Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills II which resulted in poisoning dozens of residents of Cigempol Village, Kutamekar Village, Ciampel District.
“We are still investigating by asking witnesses. For the time being, there are six witnesses being examined, including employees in the chlorine production department at the factory," said Karawang Police Chief AKBP Rama Samtama Putra, quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 6.
According to him, the police have conducted a crime scene investigation (TKP) to investigate the cause of the PT Pindo Deli Pulp And Paper Mills II gas leak that caused dozens of residents to be poisoned on Thursday, June 3.
"TKP investigation was carried out with the Puslabfor Team of the National Police Headquarters accompanied by the Karawang Environment and Hygiene Service," he said.
He added that related to the cause of the gas leak, the company stated that the incident was triggered by a problem with the supply gas cylinder.
The police will clarify the tube supplier. "So this is still a process, we are also still waiting for the results from the Puslabfor Polri Headquarters," he said.
The poisoning incident due to the leaking of a caustic soda gas pipe belonging to PT Pindo Deli II on Thursday, June 3 resulted in around 80 residents being short of breath and being treated at a nearby hospital.
Previously in 2017 and 2018, local residents also experienced the same suffering due to the leaking of Pindo Deli 2 chimneys.
