Nizar Amidi Becomes New President of Iraq, Iran Invites Regional Peace Collaboration

JAKARTA - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian congratulated Nizar Amidi on being elected as the new President of Iraq, replacing Abdul Latif Rashid.

Citing the Tasnim news agency on Sunday, April 12, in his congratulatory remarks to Amidi, Pezeshkian called for Iranian-Iraqi collaboration in promoting regional peace, stability, and development.

Pezeshkian also described Iraq as a friendly country, having successfully rigged the presidential election reflecting the confidence of the Iraqi parliament and its people in Amidi's leadership.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the deep historical, cultural and religious ties between Iran and Iraq, and assessed the two countries as influential countries in the region and the Islamic world.

He noted that the long-standing relationship between Iraq and Iran is a valuable foundation for strengthening cooperation and advancing common interests.

Pezeshkian expressed his belief that during the Amidi government, and with the political will in both countries, bilateral cooperation will further develop in various sectors.
