No Meeting Point, Iran's Talks with the US Will Be Extended by One Day

JAKARTA - Talks between Iran and the United States will be extended for one more day, with a new round starting on Sunday in Islamabad, Iran's Tasnim news agency reported.

Previously, the Iranian government stated that negotiations between the Iranian and US delegations would continue despite the differences between the two parties.

"Negotiations will continue despite a number of differences," the Iranian government said on Telegram.

Iran and the United States began talks in Islamabad on Saturday after US President Donald Trump announced an agreement with Tehran on a two-week ceasefire on Wednesday night.

The Iranian delegation was led by the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, accompanied by the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the Chairman of the National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, and the Governor of the Central Bank Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Meanwhile, the US delegation was led by Vice President J.D. Vance, along with President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

Strait of Hormuz

The issue related to the Strait of Hormuz caused serious differences of opinion between the United States (US) and Iranian delegations during talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, Iranian media reported on Saturday (11/4).

The Iranian government-owned television station, IRIB, reported that the negotiating delegation had held two rounds of talks in Islamabad and the third round was held on Saturday night.

The Strait of Hormuz is among the issues that caused major disagreements among negotiators, as Iran insisted on maintaining its military presence in the waters, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The negotiators from the Iranian side also stressed the need for efforts to ensure the rights of the Iranian people, the report said.
