The Ministry of Industry Issues New Rules for Industrial Area Environment Management
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry has issued a new regulation regarding industrial area governance, especially in terms of integrated and risk-based environmental management.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that environmental management in industrial areas has a strategic role, not only in maintaining environmental sustainability, but also improving supervision efficiency and speeding up the licensing process.
"Environmental management in industrial areas also optimizes the role of area managers, as well as supporting a more conducive investment climate," he said, quoted by Antara, Saturday, April 11.
The regulation is contained in the Minister of Industry Regulation Number 2 of 2026 which regulates the procedures for the preparation and approval of the Detailed Environmental Management Plan and Environmental Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL) for business activities in industrial areas.
This rule is an improvement on the previous policy as well as an adjustment to the Risk-Based Business Licensing system as regulated in Government Regulation Number 28 of 2025.
Director General of International Industrial Resilience, Regionalization and Access (KPAII), Tri Supondy, added that an integrated risk-based approach is expected to be able to encourage industrial areas to become competitive and environmentally friendly growth centers.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry has also held a socialization of the new rules in a hybrid manner involving related ministries/institutions, local governments, and industry area management associations.
"This step is expected to increase the understanding of business actors of the risk-based licensing mechanism and strengthen cross-sectoral coordination," concluded Agus.
"This effort is aimed at strengthening environmental governance within the industrial area, so that it can increase competitiveness and attract investment to support the sustainable growth of the national industry," he explained.
In its implementation, the Ministry of Industry through the Directorate General of KPAII plays a role in formulating and implementing industrial area development policies.
