Malaysia Condemns Israel's Decision to Approve 34 New Illegal Settlements
JAKARTA - Malaysia has condemned Israel's latest decision to approve the construction of 34 new illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT) in the West Bank.
Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Wisma Putra, Malaysia stated that the continued expansion of illegal settlements was part of Israel's systematic campaign to seize Palestinian land and forcibly change the demographic composition of the Palestinian territory.
"This action is a clear violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in particular the Fourth Geneva Convention and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2334 (2016), and is a direct attack on the basic rights, dignity, and sovereignty of the Palestinian people," said Wisma Putradi Kuala Lumpur, Saturday, April 11.
Malaysia called on the international community and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take firm action and hold Israel accountable.
According to Wisma Putra, concrete and decisive steps must be taken to force Israel to comply with international law and immediately end the illegal occupation.
Malaysia also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to its principled position in supporting the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people for their inalienable rights.
Malaysia also reiterated its call for the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
