Minister of Finance: Incentives for Electric Vehicles are Still Being Discussed
JAKARTA - Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the study on electric vehicle (electric vehicle/EV) incentives is in the discussion stage with the relevant authorities and industry players.
For electric cars, for example, Purbaya said he had discussed with the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo).
"Gaikindo invites you to exhibit cars, but also discuss, for example, if you need incentives, what kind of incentives for electric cars and others," Purbaya told reporters at the Attorney General's Office, Jakarta, Friday, April 10, reported by ANTARA.
According to Purbaya, the discussion with Gaikindo has not been completed and will continue at the next meeting.
Meanwhile, regarding electric motorcycles, the Minister of Finance stated that he was coordinating with the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita. The incentive will be directed to the latest generation of electric motorcycles.
"I will still talk to the Minister of Industry, there will be incentives for new electric motorcycles," he said.
The same thing was also expressed by Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.
The Minister of Industry conveyed that regarding the electric motor incentive, his party had already communicated with the Ministry of Finance, and emphasized that the amount of the incentive was still under discussion.
"It is still being discussed," said the Minister of Industry when met in Jakarta, Thursday (9/4).
He said the current government is preparing regulations to support the acceleration of the adoption of electric vehicles, especially motorcycles.
Meanwhile, conventional-based motorcycle production will not be stopped, but will be directed to meet the needs of the export market, especially to non-traditional areas.
He conveyed President Prabowo Subianto's instructions that all future vehicles will be electric, as the importance of reducing dependence on fossil fuels increases.
"Yes, because now it is increasingly visible that it is important for that, to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. So there is no other choice we have to convert to electricity," he said.
