Ready for Implementation, B50 Trial Achieves 70 Percent

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia ensures that the B50 biodiesel program is ready to be implemented on July 1.

Bahlil said that the trial process of biodiesel in vehicles has reached 70 percent.

"I convey that the results of the trial of B50 are now 60-70 percent," Bahlil told the media, Friday, April 10.

The trial process has been implemented on several types of vehicles, including heavy equipment, trains, ships, and cars.

"Insyaallah, in May and June the results will be completed and will be implemented on July 1," said Bahlil.

Furthermore, Bahlil said that the implementation of this program aims to strengthen national energy independence and reduce dependence on imports, especially solar commodities.

"This has become a state policy, this is a survival mode. So that we are not dependent on global fuel, especially for solar," he said.

As previously reported, the government has accelerated the implementation of the blending of vegetable fuel (BBN) of the palm oil-based biodiesel type (CPO) to 50 percent (B50) on July 1, 2025.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, said that this acceleration of implementation is part of efforts to achieve energy independence and energy efficiency.

"The government is implementing this B50 policy starting July 1, 2026. Pertamina is ready to implement blending," he said in an online press conference, Tuesday, March 31.

Airlangga said that the use of B50 has the potential to reduce the use of fossil-based fuels by 4 million kiloliters in one year since it was implemented.

Airlangga estimated that in 6 months there would be savings in the use of fossil-based fuels and there would also be savings in biodiesel subsidies, which are estimated to reach Rp. 48 trillion.
