Russia Claims Ukraine Agreed to 2-Day Ceasefire for Orthodox Easter
JAKARTA - The Russian government said it had seen Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement regarding his support for the Easter ceasefire announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The message has been delivered to impose a ceasefire from 16.00 Moscow time on Saturday until the end of Sunday. We also saw Zelenskyy's statement that Ukraine would follow suit," said Dmitry Peskov, Russian President's Spokesperson, Friday, April 10, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik.
Peskov said peace in Ukraine could be reached immediately if Zelenskyy made the decision.
He said Russia did not want a temporary ceasefire, but a lasting and sustainable peace.
"This is humanitarian. Easter is a holy day for Russia and Ukraine," he said.
Previously, Putin announced a ceasefire related to Orthodox Easter celebrations starting on April 11 at 16.00 Moscow time (20.00 WIB) until April 12.
