Consistent Implementation of ESG, Inalum Achieves Proper Gold and Green 2025 from KLH
JAKARTA - PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) again emphasized its commitment to sustainable business practices by achieving Proper Gold and Green ratings in the 2025 Corporate Performance Rating Assessment Program in Environmental Management (Proper).
The Gold rating was given for the operations of the Melting Plant (ISP), while the Green rating was achieved by the operations of the Hydroelectric Power Plant (IPP).
The award was handed over directly by the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Hanif Faisol Nurofiq who emphasized that PROPER has now evolved into an instrument of transformation for the business world.
According to him, PROPER is no longer merely a tool for evaluating administrative compliance, but encourages companies to go beyond standards through innovation, resource efficiency and real contributions to society.
In the 2024-2025 period, the number of PROPER participants reached 5,476 companies, up 22 percent compared to the previous year.
However, only 282 companies managed to enter the beyond compliance category, including Inalum.
INALUM President Director Melati Sarnita said that this achievement reflects the integration of sustainability in the company's business strategy consistently.
"The company is not only focused on compliance, but also on value creation through the implementation of measurable environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects," said Melati, quoted from a written statement, Friday, April 10.
Historically, Inalum has recorded stable Proper performance. The Gold rating was achieved for the smelting plant in Kuala Tanjung in 2022, 2024 and 2025, and for the operation of the hydroelectric plant in Paritohan in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Green ranking was also achieved sustainably and operationally by the hydroelectric plant in recent years.
"This achievement is supported by various environmental innovation initiatives (eco-innovation), ranging from energy and resource efficiency, waste management to operational process optimization which contribute to improving sustainability performance," he explained.
On the social side, the company runs a community empowerment program based on the Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach.
One of the flagship programs, "From Waste to Blessing" is an example of integration between environmental benefits and economic value for the surrounding community.
This achievement strengthens Inalum's position as a strategic industrial player that is not only oriented towards business performance, but also towards environmental sustainability and social welfare.
In the future, Inalum is committed to continue improving ESG standards and strengthening collaboration with stakeholders in supporting the transition to clean energy and sustainable development in Indonesia.
