Melania Trump also denied having a photo with Jeffrey Epstein.
JAKARTA - US First Lady Melania Trump has denied having a relationship with late sex predator Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
In a rare public statement at the White House on Thursday, April 9 local time, the wife of US President Donald Trump also denied her association with Epstein in a number of photos on social media.
"I am not a victim of Epstein. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump," Melania said, quoted by the Le Monde media, Friday, April 10.
Melania claimed that photos of her with Epstein had long been circulating on social media. The former Slovenian model also asked the public not to believe her.
"For years. Be careful what you believe: These pictures and stories are completely false," he continued.
Jeffrey Epstein died in US federal custody in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving underage girls that dragged Donald Trump's name into the mix.
The US Justice Department has over the past year released a large number of files related to the Epstein case.
One of the photos that was widely viewed in the file, shows Donald and Melania Trump at their resort in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, with Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.
"I never knew of Epstein's abuse of his victims. I was never involved in any capacity. I was not a participant. I was never on Epstein's plane and never visited his private island," claimed Melania Trump.
"I have never been accused or legally proven guilty of any crime related to Epstein's sex trafficking, child molestation, and other disgusting behavior," he continued.
Melania's statement in front of the cameras at the White House is very rare and was made suddenly amid the dimming of the Epstein scandal that has long haunted Donald Trump resurfaced on social media.
Melanie's rebuttal came two days after Trump announced a truce in the US-Israeli war against Iran.
