Collaboration between Schools and Parents is Needed to Improve Children's Education Quality
JAKARTA - Education has always been the main foundation in building the future of a nation. In the midst of various challenges faced by the world of education, the commitment to provide equitable and quality access is becoming increasingly important. This is what the SIS Group of Schools has been fighting for over the past three decades.
Entering its 30th year, SIS not only celebrates its long journey, but also reaffirms its mission in providing global standard education that can be accessed by more people. This moment is also marked by the inauguration of SIS North East Jakarta (SIS NEJ Lake Side Campus), as a strategic step to expand the reach of quality education in Indonesia.
Founded in 1996 by Jaspal Sidhu, SIS has grown from one campus in South Jakarta to an international education network spread across various countries. By carrying the Singapore curriculum, Cambridge IGCSE, and IB Diploma Programme, SIS is committed to producing a generation that is not only academically superior, but also has strong character and a global perspective.
On his journey, Jaspal Sidhu emphasized that education should not be an exclusive right for a few people only. He witnessed firsthand how the gap in access to education is still a real problem, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia, where not all children have the same opportunity to get quality education.
"Education is very important for the country. The problem, in my opinion, is that the schools we consider premium or quality are often only accessible to certain people who can afford it," said Jaspal when met at SIS NEJ, Cakung, Jakarta on Friday, April 10, 2026.
"This should not happen. We need to find sustainable ways so that quality education can be accessed by as many Indonesians as possible," he continued.
This thinking is a strong foundation for SIS to continue to reduce costs without sacrificing quality, and to bring schools not only in big cities, but also reach small cities to districts through initiatives such as "Inspiration Schools".
In the midst of the trend of building schools with magnificent facilities, Jaspal Sidhu actually reminded that the essence of education is not in the building, but in the quality of teachers.
"Don't let yourself be influenced by infrastructure. The best school in the world that I have ever seen is actually under a tree in Africa. The most important thing is the teacher," said Jaspal.
According to him, teachers are not only teachers, but figures who build connections with students. Without this connection, the learning process will not run optimally. Therefore, SIS emphasizes the attitude (attitude) and dedication of teachers rather than just experience.
Another important message highlights the role of parents in children's education. He emphasized that the school is not the party that can fully bear the responsibility.
"Parents should not hand over all of their children's education to schools. The role of parents remains the main one, while schools are partners in supporting the process," concluded Jaspal.
Collaboration between schools and parents is the key to shaping the character and overall development of children, especially in today's digital era.
In improving the quality of national education, Jaspal Sidhu also emphasized the importance of collaboration between private and state schools.
"Private schools need to work together with state schools to share knowledge. I want to see the data, I want to see the impact. If there is no impact, it's just a waste of time," added Jaspal.
Data-based approaches and real impacts are the main principles, not just symbolic programs without clear results.
The 30th anniversary of SIS carries the theme "Reflecting on Our Roots, Reimagining the Future of Education", which reflects the spirit of continuing to innovate. Not only expanding the school network, SIS also encourages global collaboration, technology utilization, and student-centered learning.
With the presence of SIS North East Jakarta, SIS reaffirms its commitment to building an inclusive, relevant, and impactful education ecosystem for the future of the younger generation.
SIS's move is a reminder that education is not just about buildings, curricula, or technology, but about people, collaboration, and a vision for a better future.
