Case of Land Purchase and Sale Fraud in Muara Angke Revealed, the Perpetrator Grossed Rp160 Million
JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Sunda Kelapa Police Station has uncovered a case of alleged fraud and/or embezzlement in land and building transactions in the Muara Angke area, North Jakarta. A man with the initials AR (34) was secured after allegedly selling property that did not belong to him.
This fraud incident began on Saturday, January 24, 2026, when the suspect offered a piece of land and a building located in the PHPT Muara Angke area to the victim. In the process, the two parties had a negotiation on the price until finally the transaction value of Rp. 260 million was agreed upon.
On Monday, January 26, 2026, at around 23.00 WIB, the victim made an initial payment of Rp. 160 million through a mobile banking transfer at his residence. The transaction was also witnessed by other parties as witnesses.
After receiving the money, the suspect promised to immediately take care of the ownership documents and hand them over to the victim. However, communication between the victim and the suspect then became difficult. The victim, who was suspicious, eventually sought information related to the land object and found that the property had been owned by another party.
The victim also tried to contact the suspect to ask for clarification, but did not get a response. Feeling aggrieved, the victim reported the incident to the Sunda Kelapa Police.
Following up on the report, the operational team conducted an investigation until finally managing to secure the suspect on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at around 13.00 WIB in the Muara Angke area.
From the results of the examination, it was found that the modus operandi used by the suspect was to offer and sell land objects and buildings that did not belong to him without the consent of the legitimate owner.
As a result of this incident, the victim suffered a loss of Rp. 160 million.
For his actions, the suspect was charged with fraud and/or embezzlement as stipulated in Articles 486 and/or 492 of the Criminal Code. The police are currently investigating the possibility of other victims in similar cases.
