ICW's Request For Firli Bahuri May Not Be Realized By The Police
JAKARTA - Executive Director of the Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi), Edi Hasibuan, assessed that Corruption Watch (ICW)'s attempt to write to the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to withdraw Firli Bahuri back to the Bhayangkara Corps was wrong. Thus, the request is considered not to be realized.
"I don't think it will be realized. This is not the realm of the Police's authority," said Edi to VOI, Sunday, June 6.
Even though Firli is an active member of the National Police, Edi continued, he is currently the head of the KPK. Where, the election as chairman of the anti-corruption agency went through a long selection mechanism until it was determined by the DPR and inaugurated by the president.
Moreover, the KPK also has its own rules, namely, Law number 19 of 2019 on the second amendment to Law number 30 of 2002 concerning the commission for eradicating corruption.
"Of all the rules in the KPK Law, there is no reason to dismiss Firli Bahuri," he said.
Then, regarding the complaint regarding the alleged gratification involving Firli, said Edi, it also does not deserve to be processed. This is because the matter has entered the realm of the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas).
"As a rule, the most appropriate person to handle the report is the Dewas. If the Police are reported at this time, we ask that the report be transferred to the Council for further action," said Edi.
All problems that arise because of the dismissal of 51 KPK employees, continued Edi, should be resolved internally. Thus, there is no need to involve other institutions and prolong the problem.
"We see that the KPK already has its own rules. If it is in the realm of the KPK or the council, leave it to the authorities," he said.
