Van Gogh painting stolen back on display in Netherlands after 6 years

JAKARTA - The painting "Spring Garden" by Vincent van Gogh is back on display in the Netherlands after being stolen six years ago. The work is now on display again at the Groninger Museum starting from the end of March, after being restored to its original condition.

The painting was stolen from the Singer Laren Museum on March 30, 2020, coinciding with Van Gogh's birthday. According to Anadolu Agency quoted on Thursday, April 9, at that time, the work was being loaned from the Groninger Museum.

Three years later, the painting was rediscovered with the help of art detective Arthur Brand. The work was returned by an unknown person to the Groninger Museum.

The theft case dragged Nils M., a 59-year-old man from Baarn. He is also known to have stolen another painting in the same action and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The painting then underwent a restoration process over the past year. As reported by Anadolu Agency, Karina Smrkovsky from the Groninger Museum told RTV Noord that the work has now returned to its original condition.

After the restoration process was completed, "Spring Garden" can now be seen by the public at the Groninger Museum.
