JIS Train Station is Targeted to Operate in June 2026, Jakpro Says Key to Smooth Access for Visitors
JAKARTA - The construction of the Commuter Line station in the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) area is being rushed and is targeted to start operating in June 2026. The presence of this station is projected to be the main support for access to transportation to the large capacity stadium.
This project is the result of coordination between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Ministry of Transportation, and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), with the support of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) as the area manager.
Strengthening public transportation integration is one of the sustainable focuses of the DKI Provincial Government in recent years. The JIS area is positioned as a new node of public activity in North Jakarta which requires adequate accessibility support.
President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) Iwan Takwin said the presence of this KRL station will significantly change the pattern of access to the stadium.
"This KRL station will be located right on the north side of the stadium, making it easier for spectators from various regions - especially from the direction of Jakarta City and Tanjung Priok - to directly reach the location without having to change modes of transportation," said Iwan Takwin in his statement, Friday, April 10.
In addition to supporting mobility, the construction of this station is also part of the development of a transit-oriented development (TOD) based area. This concept integrates public transportation with residents' activity spaces so that the area remains alive outside the agenda of matches or major events.
With this scheme, JIS not only serves as a stadium, but is also directed to become a multifunctional activity center that is active all the time, ranging from sports, entertainment to community activities.
The carrying capacity of the KRL is considered a solution to disperse the traffic density that has often occurred during major events at JIS.
"KRL is able to efficiently transport thousands of spectators. This is very crucial, especially for matches with a capacity of up to 82,000 spectators, so that the flow of in-and-out can be better distributed," said Iwan.
The use of mass transportation is also expected to encourage a shift from private vehicles, so that it can reduce congestion around Jalan RE Martadinata and the surrounding area.
Currently, the JIS area has been connected to a number of public transportation modes, including Transjakarta and the KRL network, as well as supported by a 466-meter pedestrian overpass (JPO) facility that connects the stadium with the Ancol area.
This integration also supports the international standards of the stadium, including FIFA requirements, and strengthens JIS's chances of hosting various global events in the future.
