Bringing Indonesian Design Faces to the World Stage: IDD at Salone del Mobile 2026
Tangerang - The Indonesian creative industry has once again proven that design is not just aesthetics, but a cultural identity that is able to speak on a global level. This spirit brings the Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2 to one of the most prestigious design stages in the world, the Salone del Mobile, which will take place in Milan, Italy, on April 21-26, 2026.
As a meeting point for architects and innovators in the world, the Salone del Mobile has become an important space for Indonesia to share stories about the development of interior design and furniture in the country.
House of Indonesia: A Collaborative Narrative
At Milan, IDD PIK2 will present the IDD Pavilion with the theme "House of Indonesia". Instead of just showcasing products, this concept offers an overview of a complete design ecosystem - a harmonious collaboration between designers, artisans, manufacturers, and the creative community.
Curated by renowned designer Alvin Tjitrowirjo, the works on display are chosen to represent the contemporary face of Indonesia. The focus is not only on visual beauty, but also on the depth of authentic materials and creative processes.
"We want to show that Indonesia has an ecosystem that is able to think conceptually and materialize it in a quality that is ready to compete on the global stage," said Alvin in a media session at IDD PIK2, Thursday (9/4).
The Room that Tells Stories
The visualization of this pavilion was entrusted to Santi Alaysius from Domisilium Studio. Through his touch, the IDD Pavilion booth is designed to be a space that reflects the dynamics and spirit of the mutual cooperation of our design industry.
Not only that, IDD support also flows for young talents such as Studio Banda, Zulyo Kumara, and Cynthia Margaret who will perform at SaloneSatellite. Support in the form of logistics and expedition of this work is a tangible proof of IDD's commitment in opening doors for young designers to the international market.
Collective Support for National Identity
This strategic step has also received appreciation from various parties, ranging from the Ministry of Creative Economy (EKRAF), the Ministry of Trade, to the Indonesian Embassy in Rome. This synergy between the private sector and the government confirms that the mission to Milan is not merely a business exhibition, but an effort to strengthen Indonesia's position on the world creative map.
Ipeng Widjojo, CEO of IDD PIK2, hopes that through this participation, the works of local designers can establish a wider connection with the global industry. In line with this, Sabar Norma Megawati Pandjaitan from the Ministry of Creative Economy added that this event is a golden opportunity to show the identity of Indonesia's creative economy.
Through its presence at the Salone del Mobile 2026, Indonesia is present not only as a guest, but as an active contributor to the world's design dialogue. A small step in Milan for a big impact on national pride.
