Krisna Bayu Becomes Sambo Chairman Again, Elected by Acclamation
JAKARTA - Krisna Bayu was re-elected by acclamation as the Chairman of the Central Management of the Indonesian Sambo Association (PP Persambi) for the 2026-2030 term of office. This is the third period he has sat at the top of the federation.
He was trusted by the majority of the Provincial Management (Pengprov) of Persambi in the National Congress (Munas) of the PP Persambi which took place at the KOI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
Bayu said that one of the big homework for the new management was to try to get the sambo sport branch to be competed in the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).
"We are trying to do this. We are doing this process and we are using all the lobbies so that Sambo can be included in the PON later," said Bayu.
Fighting for the sport of sambo to be included in the PON is one of the two major tasks that the new management is ready to carry out. The other is the effort to hold the Sambo World Championships in Indonesia in 2027.
Bayu said that he had coordinated with the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and various parties concerned to fight for sambo to be included in the PON in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara later.
"In principle, Mr. (Head of KONI Central) Marciano Norman is very supportive of sambo to be involved again in the PON. Mr. Suwarno (Deputy Head of KONI Central) also gave advice to coordinate with the host," he said.
Sambo has previously debuted in the 2024 PON which took place in North Sumatra and Aceh. However, for the upcoming edition it is not on the list, but still has a chance.
Bayu also expressed his readiness to hold the World Championships in Indonesia. The signal that Indonesia will host the previous one was delivered by the World Sambo Federation (FIAS) in the Junior World Championships last year.
"It should be 2027, we will bid for the World Championship that the seniors are in Indonesia. If from the results of the World Junior Championship in Bogor yesterday, with 43 countries, none of them complained," he said.
Present at the National Congress were the President of the Asian and Oceanic Sambo (SUAO), Alamjon Mullaev, the President of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari, and the Deputy General Chair of the Central KONI Purwadi.
