Accommodation During Umrah Not Appropriate, Pilgrims Ask Travel Agency to Immediately Pay Compensation

JAKARTA - Husnul Fuadi Masigi and eight members of his family demand PT. Al Safwah Wisata Mandiri (Smarts Umrah) to immediately pay compensation for the discrepancy in accommodation during the Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca and Medina, Saudi Arabia.

In his written statement, Husnul Fuadi revealed that the incident began with the incompatibility of hotel facilities in Mecca and Medina when he and his family members, including one elderly and four children, prayed.

In a statement addressed to the management of PT. Al Safwah Wisata Mandiri (Smarts Umrah) with an address at Jl. Matraman Raya No.7 1, RT.1/RW.1, Kb. Manggis, Matraman District, East Jakarta City, Special Capital Region of Jakarta 13150, Husnul Fuadi conveyed official objections and complaints regarding violations of the service agreement (wanprestasi) during he and his family worshiped Umrah on December 29, 2025 to January 6, 2026.

"The incompatibility of hotel facilities in Mecca and Medina has resulted in material losses, loss of time and disruption of the sanctity of worship, considering that our group includes the elderly and children," he wrote in a statement letter as quoted (8/4).

Initially, as mentioned in the travel package brochure, pilgrims will get accommodation at the Fajr Badee 4 Hotel in Makkah (said to be 700-800 meters from the Grand Mosque) and the Mukhtara Gharbi Hotel in Medina (500-700 meters from the Prophet's Mosque).

However, Husnul said that he and his family got a hotel that was further away and had to use public transportation.

"The compensation we want is the replacement of hotel costs of Rp53,600,000," he wrote.

Later, it was agreed that the compensation to be given was Rp. 40,200,000. However, because the deadline of 8 March 2026 to pay compensation was not met, Husnul Fuadi Masigi on 11 March sent a summons so that the travel party immediately paid the agreed compensation.

In response to the summons, PT. Al Safwah Wisata Mandiri (Smarts Umrah) through Deputy Director Rian Darmawan sent a response letter saying that it had received and understood the contents of the summons.

He also wrote that he was ready to fulfill the obligations that had been agreed upon with the niai of Rp40,200,000.

It is said that the payment will be made on March 16 in accordance with the previously reached agreement.

The travel party also said it was ready to carry out its obligations on time as a good faith to complete existing obligations, apologizing for the delay on the grounds of the company's liquidity conditions.

However, as of Wednesday (8/4) according to Husnul Fuadi, the travel party has not fulfilled its obligations, asking for the compensation to be paid immediately because it has defaulted on the agreed agreement.
