TNI AU Targets Development of 30 Radar Units
JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force (KSAU) Marshal TNI Tonny Harjono said his party was pursuing the target of building 30 radar units (satrad) throughout Indonesia.
The construction of the satrad is still ongoing and is targeted to be fully operational by 2029.
"Insyaallah in 2029 everything will be installed according to plan. All there will be 30 satrad," said Tonny at a press conference at the AU Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Thursday, April 9, reported by ANTARA.
Tonny explained that the presence of the satrad was very necessary to monitor Indonesia's air activities.
According to him, with the satrad, the Air Force can anticipate the movement of foreign aircraft entering Indonesian airspace.
Until now, the Indonesian Air Force has 20 satrads spread across Indonesia. However, some of the satrads must be replaced because they are obsolete.
"We will get 25 new radars because we know that the radars we have now, there are 20 satrad that are obsolete but still function well," said Tonny.
The new Satrad will be placed in a location that is considered a blind spot or blind spot in the Indonesian airspace.
With the help of the satrad, Tonny believes that Indonesia's air defense will be stronger.
