Government encourages residents to officials to switch to public transportation

Jakarta - The Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi explained that the government is committed to accelerating the improvement of public transportation as well as encouraging changes in public behavior, including officials, as a response to the threat of a global energy crisis due to geopolitical turmoil.

Hopefully, both the public and government officials can completely switch from using private vehicles to mass transportation. This was conveyed by Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 8.

In connection with this, continued Prasetyo, the government is currently trying to reduce the use of official vehicles among officials as part of energy efficiency measures. In line with these efforts, the government is also preparing to shift the use of fossil energy to renewable energy.

Fossil fuels, such as petroleum, coal, and natural gas, are still the main source of vehicle fuel, including gasoline, diesel, and avtur. However, increasing global dependence, limited reserves, and distribution disruptions due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region have prompted the need for accelerated utilization of renewable energy in Indonesia.

Therefore, currently the government is also encouraging the development of electric-based vehicles as part of the energy transition.

The government through the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs has also issued a policy on National Work Culture Transformation, which includes the implementation of Work From Home (WFH) for ASN, appeals for savings in electricity and daily energy, and encouragement for the use of public transportation.
