Together with the Red Crescent, PMI is ready to distribute humanitarian aid to Iranian citizens
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has expressed its readiness to distribute humanitarian assistance from the Indonesian people to residents affected by the conflict in Iran.
This step was taken in response to the increasing need for assistance due to the escalation of the humanitarian situation that has occurred in recent weeks.
The Chairman of the PMI, Jusuf Kalla (JK), emphasized the commitment of the institution he led when receiving a visit from the Deputy Head of the Iranian Embassy Mission, Mohammad Mahdi Moradi, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
JK stated that this mission is purely based on universal humanitarian values.
"PMI is always open and ready to contribute to humanitarian issues wherever they are, as long as the goal is really for humanity. The point is, we prioritize humanitarian principles and good coordination with related parties, such as the Iranian Red Crescent," said JK, quoted from ANTARA, Thursday, April 9, 2026.
As a concrete step, JK revealed that the PMI team will depart for Islamabad, Pakistan, this week.
There, PMI will procure medicines with the assistance of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society and the local Indonesian Embassy to be handed over to the Iranian side.
This local procurement strategy was chosen because it was considered much more effective than sending logistics directly from the homeland.
"Local procurement in Pakistan is more effective and efficient than sending goods from Indonesia which is expensive and the delivery time is longer. More importantly, the rules for using medicines from Pakistan use language that is easy to understand (by local residents)," JK explained.
During the meeting, it was also agreed that the funds received by the Iranian Embassy from the Indonesian people would be collectively channeled through PMI.
The aid is intended to alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by military attacks in Iranian territory.
For people who want to contribute, PMI has opened an official donation channel through the Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) account with the number 039001000318303 or Bank Mandiri with the number 0700017172011, both in the name of the Indonesian Red Cross.
This assistance will be managed transparently and distributed through partners of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement around the conflict area.
