End Of BoA Case Suspected Of Smuggling Drugs From Japan
JAKARTA - After several months, the case of BoA and drugs from Japan found an end point.
Previously, on December 17, 2020, the 8 O'Clock News event reported that a hallyu singer “A” was suspected of carrying psychotropic drugs from Japan, one of which was Zolpidem.
Furthermore, singer A received a prescription for psychotropic drugs in Japan on behalf of the agency staff. The drug was found when the examination process was in progress. The agency that oversees BoA, SM Entertainment, has denied allegations that the artist tried to smuggle the drugs.
"Our staff received the medicine at the local hospital following the procedure. He was not aware that it could be a problem in South Korea even though the drug is commonly prescribed overseas," reads a statement from SM Entertainment.
SM also said that the staff from the branch office did not know the drug delivery process. They do not intend to carry drugs illegally.
“BoA recently got the results of a check-up and the doctor told me that there was a decrease in her hormones so she needs to get enough sleep. As per the doctor's advice, he took sleeping pills."
BoA took the medicine she had been taking while in Japan. He had experienced side effects from sleeping pills received from doctors.
Even so, the prosecutor stated that he was still investigating the case to see if there was an intention in it. "These staff don't know that a government permit is required to deliver drugs, even those who receive a permit have to make a statement."
Friday, June 4, the prosecutors will not file charges against BoA and staff for their import of drugs.
"The staff who sent drugs to Korea received a prescription for BoA during the artist's promotion period in Japan, but were not aware of the required regulations and did not get proper permits for medicinal products."
BoA and the staff tried to follow the inspection process properly. “BoA and staff explained the details of the drugs carefully, how they shipped the drugs from overseas, and the situation regarding the official procedures, and participated in the investigation process.”
BoA is a South Korean singer who debuted in 2000. She is known as one of Asia's stars for contributing to the direct spread of Korean pop culture.
In addition to South Korea, BoA is also successful in Japan. She became a South Korean singer who topped the Japanese Oricon charts with her debut album. In 2020, BoA celebrated her 20th debut with the release of an album titled Better.
