John Paul Ivan On 'Warding Off' Naughty Music Promoters
JAKARTA - The cancellation of a number of concerts that tarnished the face of the country's showbiz scene in the past month, coupled with riots that led to the destruction of the stage and the burning of tents at the Musikologi music event last weekend, made many parties speak up. One of them is John Paul Ivan, a former guitarist for the rock band Boomerang.
JPI - as he is known - revealed that he had experienced a similar problem. According to him, there are various reasons for the cancellation of a concert. Among other things, the event financier withdrew, making all parties confused.
"Usually (those who like to cancel) are events that pay for admission tickets, which don't use the main sponsor. So, there is cooperation between the event organizer (EO) and investors to run the event, because investors leave, approaching the D day the EO can't. paying the vendors, venues, and artists, especially when ticket sales did not meet the target, aka didn't sell, "JPI explained to VOI.
The second, continued the guitarist who is now joining the band Take Over, there are EO elements who are naughty to run away the funds for the event. This resulted in the cancellation of the event on the D-day because the vendor and artist were unable to make full payment.
"Furthermore, because EO cannot / wants to spend additional funds to fulfill requests by police officers who ask for more payment for licensing a concert, under the pretext of fear of riots," he continued.
Meanwhile, regarding compensation, this curly-haired guitarist said it all depends on the contract agreement at the beginning. Because there are those who apply it straight, but there are also those that are tolerant in the form of relief.
Regarding the event contract, whichever band JPI is in, it has always been legal on paper and stamp duty, and it is always straight if there is a cancellation from the organizers.
"Must be paid in full! Usually the D-2 repayment. We don't give a penalty to the EO, just pay it off. But there are cases of sikon if the EO escapes or disappears before the date of the event. Well, this is difficult if we ask for repayment. As a result we canceled playing and only get a DP, the program is just like that, "explained JPI.
It's different if the EO is someone he knows or is a friend of. Usually, said JPI, both parties do not treat the agreement formally and only based on trust.
"Not using a contract on paper, the important thing is that the transfer is done before the D-day," said Ivan, his greeting.
JPI also gave an example when he was still a Boomerang guitarist. He had experienced two bitter moments when he performed in Balikpapan and Mojokerto. At that time, the event organizer asked for the payment of honorarium to be made after the show was over, and Boomerang gave tolerance. However, later the organizers argued that they had suffered a loss so that the settlement could not come out that night and had to withdraw.
Boomerang again gave tolerance to the organizers. However, after the set time limit, it turned out that there was no good intention from the organizers to pay off the honorarium and continued to make cliché excuses. Finally, they disappeared or fled.
"Well, that's what ultimately became a lesson for us to make a straight event contract. There is a new DP that can increase the promo event, the new D-2 payment will go to the city where the event takes place. As long as the system doesn't exist, okay ... 'no payment no party ', "said JPI.
