Iran's Lavan Oil Refinery Explodes After Trump Announces Ceasefire
JAKARTA - An explosion occurred at an Iranian oil refinery on Lavan Island shortly after the ceasefire was agreed between the US and Iran.
Iran's Mehr news agency, quoted by Al Jazeera and Xianhua, said the explosion occurred on Wednesday 8 April.
However, the cause of the explosion is still unknown.
Previously, US President Donald Trump announced that a two-week ceasefire had been reached in the US-Israeli war against Iran.
"I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for two weeks. This will be a two-sided ceasefire!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media account, Tuesday night, April 7.
Trump then claimed there was no doubt that the US had achieved a "total and complete victory" in the conflict in the Middle East. He added that Iran's uranium enrichment would be "perfectly taken care of" under the deal.
According to one of Iran's state television stations, the proposal for a ceasefire agreement contains 10 points, one of which includes "a complete and permanent cessation of war against Iran without time limits".
