Kai Havertz Says Arsenal Ready to Win Big Titles
JAKARTA - Kai Havertz said Arsenal were able to win big titles after controlling the Champions League quarterfinal match against Sporting CP on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, early morning WIB, in Lisbon, Portugal.
Havertz came off the bench and scored the winner in the final minutes to secure a 1-0 victory on a night where the Gunners answered fresh questions about their character following the FA Cup exit.
Talks of a season with four trophies extinguished after Arsenal were beaten in the Carabao Cup final by Manchester City last week before being knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Southampton on Sunday, April 5.
However, the victory in Lisbon ensured Mikel Arteta's side maintained their unbeaten record in the Champions League this season and remain on course to reach the semi-finals for a second successive season in the tournament.
"This is a big change for us because we lost the last two games. So, we wanted to turn things around today (against Sporting) and we managed to do it."
"We remain united as a team, we still have a lot to achieve this season. There are still seven weeks left, we can win big titles and we will fight for it," said Havertz.
Arsenal are still nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Arteta praised his side for rediscovering their identity after a difficult period following the dramatic win against Sporting.
"The demand from August is to win and win and win and win. If you don't win, it's a disaster and it's not enough."
"If you don't win four trophies, what are we doing? So, it's good, but they need perspective, especially from my side, a big reminder of who we are as a team and the things that have brought us to where we are now."
"Accept it, live in the present, do your best, and let's see what happens," Arteta said.
Meanwhile, Havertz praised the brilliant performance of goalkeeper David Raya after the match against Sporting, where the Spanish player made save after save to keep the score level before the decisive goal in injury time.
At the end of the match, Raya deflected Geny Catamo's header towards the goal and then made a double save to thwart Catamo and Luis Suarez's chances.
"For me, in the last two seasons, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. He has saved us many times," Havertz said.
