In the DPR, Governor Koster Reveals 'A Bunch' of Problems Faced by Bali
JAKARTA - Bali Governor I Wayan Koster revealed a number of problems and challenges that are currently being faced. A number of problems range from high land function shifts, threats to the availability of clean water, severe congestion to desecration of sacred places in the province of Bali.
This was conveyed by Koster in a Working Meeting of Commission V of the DPR with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Transportation at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 8.
According to Koster, tourism in Bali not only has a positive impact on the regional and national economy, but also has a negative impact on nature.
"The first is the high land function, then the waste increases, the damage to the ecosystem, the threat to the availability of clean water and congestion increases," said Koster.
Then, the capacity of public infrastructure and transportation is far from adequate on the Island of the Gods. "The opportunity for local people in Bali to try to reduce, the practice of buying assets in Bali is increasing, drug cases, prostitution is also increasing, security is disrupted, the emergence of an exclusive community of foreigners," he added.
Not stopping there, said Koster, many foreign tourists often desecrate sacred places in Bali. "Then the desecration of sacred places is increasing and the destruction of the code and the originality of Balinese culture," he explained.
Koster said that a number of these problems could be resolved by his party. However, he continued, there were several challenges that had to be coordinated with the central government to find a common solution. One of them is related to the infrastructure sector which requires quite a large budget.
"Of these problems, some of us can overcome. There are some things we can't overcome, especially related to infrastructure that requires quite a large amount of funds," he added.
