DKI DPRD Soroti Subsidized Food Access is Still a Problem, Encourage Perda to Improve Distribution

JAKARTA - The availability of subsidized food in Jakarta is considered not to be fully targeted. Residents who should receive assistance are still having difficulty accessing it.

Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli, highlighted this issue in the discussion of the Regional Regulation Draft (Ranperda) on the Implementation of the Food System.

According to him, this regulation must be able to fix the distribution system so that food assistance really reaches the people who are entitled.

"Hopefully with this regulation, subsidized food will be handled, at least it can be controlled. The system can be smoother and better accepted by the community," Taufik told reporters, Wednesday, April 8.

Apart from distribution, Taufik also touched on the potential for strengthening the urban agriculture sector or urban farming in Jakarta. So far, this sector is considered not to have developed optimally due to lack of training and marketing constraints.

As a result, the production of urban farming actors has not been well absorbed in the market. Taufik hopes that the Ranperda that is being discussed will not only regulate the distribution of assistance, but also encourage the use of local food production.

"It would be nice if this regulation could regulate that we can also produce our own food," said Taufik.

According to him, strengthening urban farming can be one solution to increase food security in the midst of limited land in urban areas.

"So they (urban farming perpetrators) are enlightened or advanced, and then we can also use this," he said.

The discussion of the Food System Regulation is expected to be a momentum to improve food governance in Jakarta, from production to distribution to the community.
