Gemini Integration in Google Maps Helps Contributors Write Reviews Automatically
Google has added a new feature to the Maps app to make it easier for users who want to provide reviews. The feature is support for automatically creating photo and video descriptions.
This feature added to Google Maps is supported by Gemini, Google's Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant. This new feature is designed to make it easier for hundreds of millions of contributors to share information quickly.
To use this feature, users only need to select the media they want to upload. After that, Gemini will analyze the content to generate a text description that matches its visualization.
Even though the text is generated by AI, users can still edit or delete the caption suggestions from Gemini before publishing it to the public. That way, users can adjust the text according to their style.
"The photos and videos you upload help people better understand a place, such as the overall atmosphere or the latest menu," Google said, quoted on Wednesday, April 8. "To help you get started, we use Gemini to suggest drafts."
In addition to AI text assistance, Google also makes it easier to search for images through the 'Contributions' tab which is integrated with the mobile gallery. If the media access is active, the latest visit photo will appear automatically so that users can share media in one tap.
Currently, the new AI caption suggestion feature is only available in English for iOS users in the US region. Google plans to expand the availability of this feature to the Android platform and global users gradually in the next few months.
