Heboh Video Drinking Oil in Makassar, MUI Hands Down: Haram

MAKASSAR - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of South Sulawesi Province responded to a viral video on social media in Makassar City regarding a number of young people and parents dressed in Muslim clothing drinking new oil that was opened in its packaging and then distributed in turns.

"Because the oil is not a human drink and it is certain that it has an effect on health, it is haram. That is, drinking oil is haram because it is not a drink," said the Secretary of the South Sulawesi MUI, Prof. Muammar Bakry, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 8.

According to him, oil is an important material for vehicles. However, if it is drunk like a normal drink, it will have a bad impact and damage health so that it is haram.

The behavior of drinking oil under the pretext of strengthening stamina and then posting it on social media is a wrong thing. The negative impact besides damaging health can also be imitated by others to do the same thing.

In fact, drinking oil that is clearly not intended for humans is dangerous in terms of health, even though the effects do not react immediately, but the impact in the long term.

"Because it is viral, don't let this be a bad lesson that drinking oil is allowed. Moreover, if it is considered to increase stamina and if it is watched, then followed by people, this is dangerous," he emphasized.

In addition, in religious teachings it is not recommended to drink something that is more harmful, because it can affect health, including discouraging negative content.

"So it is dangerous for those who give an example. It is also dangerous to go viral. I, as the manager of the Sulsel MUI, convey that this is not worthy of being an example. Therefore, it is better for those who give an example in the video to immediately clarify," he advised.

The Rector of the Makassar Islamic University (UIM) Al-Gazali again emphasized that the content should not be followed by people, because it will interfere with health, soul and can have legal implications.

Moreover, uploading on social media drinking oil while wearing Muslim clothing, he said, was considered inappropriate to set an example like that. Ironically, if it is used as a legitimacy.

"The clothes, the appearance that Islam allows, I think it is a very unethical and inhumane act. It should not be made into a spectacle. Because, it is feared that others will follow, that is the problem," said Muammar.

Previously, a video drinking oil that had just been carried out by a number of people wearing Muslim clothing located in a mosque and on the side of the road that said it could increase a man's stamina in Makassar City, went viral on social media.
