Trump Warns of Iran's Destruction if Conflict Continues
JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump warned that Iranian civilization could "permanently disappear" amid ongoing military operations between the US, Israel, and Iran.
In his post on the Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump said the destruction could happen in the near future, although he admitted he didn't want it.
"All civilization could disappear tonight and it would never come back again," Trump wrote, quoted by Sputnik, Tuesday, April 7.
However, he added that Iran's leadership still has the opportunity to prevent such a scenario.
Previously on March 30, Trump said the United States would "completely destroy" Iran's power plants, oil fields, Kharg Island, and desalination facilities if a peace deal was not reached and the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened.
He also warned of the possibility of an action he called "the day of destruction of power plants and bridges" on April 7 if Tehran continued to close the shipping lanes.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched an attack on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, which caused damage and civilian casualties. Iran then retaliated by attacking Israeli territory as well as US military facilities in the Middle East.
The escalation of the conflict has halted most shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the world's main route for the distribution of oil and liquefied natural gas, which has driven up fuel prices in various countries.
