BPJS Says Newborn Baby from PBI Registered Parents, Covered by JKN

JAKARTA - The Social Security Organizing Agency (BPJS) Health stated that newborns from parents who are registered as Recipients of Contribution Assistance (PBI) will be automatically covered by the National Health Insurance (JKN).

This was conveyed by the Director of Membership Akmal Budi Yulianto in response to the direction of the Minister of Empowerment of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan-RB) Rini Widyantini who stated that he would integrate BPJS services at the Public Service Mall (MPP) and the INAku portal through the integration of the Population Identification Number (NIK) so that babies who are born can immediately become active as JKN participants.

"What we can say about the financing scheme, which is definitely covered is that the parents are in the PBI JKN participant segment. That his child is automatically covered, no need to register," said Akmal in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Akmal explained, based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 64 of 2020 concerning the Second Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2018 concerning Health Insurance, it does regulate the registration of contributions related to newly born babies.

In article 36A it is stated that the dues for newborns are paid at the time of registration, and registration is carried out no later than 28 days after the baby is born.

"Well, in there (Perpres) it is written, if this is actually what is being improved or improved is the registration mechanism," he said.

He added, regarding the financing scheme for newborns, currently BPJS Kesehatan is conducting an in-depth process, but if in the future the financing scheme for newborns is automatically borne by the state through JKN, BPJS Kesehatan will fully support it.

"What I can say is that this is a good intention, it means that it is in the framework of (JKN funding) that is better. Only what we can say for the funding, which is definitely covered is that the parents are in the PBI JKN participant segment, their children are automatically covered, no need to register," he explained.

According to him, the process of automating newborns is actually a better step for faster and wider JKN services.

"So the good intentions are very good, this is a matter of speeding up what had to be registered, to automatically enter the system so that it is recorded, so, including those who are perhaps wage earners, they also follow the status of their parents," he said.

In order to realize President Prabowo Subianto's Astacita, JKN will realize a more equitable health service system for all people.

"After the President spoke about Free Nutritious Meals, education for all people, the third should be about health," said Akmal.
