Komdigi Investigates the Implementation of IGRS with Steam, Find the Root of the Problem

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital is conducting an internal investigation regarding the implementation of the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) on a number of games on the Steam platform, which is considered inappropriate.

Not only internally, the Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at Kemkomdigi, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, also said that his party had also conducted an external investigation with the world's largest game distribution platform.

"This morning, every day, we actually communicate with Steam as one of the world's largest game distribution platforms, and have followed up on this, we have agreed to conduct an internal investigation at Komdigi and externally at the Steam side," said Sonny in a press conference on Tuesday, April 7.

Again, he emphasized that the results of the monitoring showed that the ratings displayed on the platform were still from an internal mechanism based on self-declare and had not gone through the official verification process according to the provisions in Indonesia.

"Again, we have also conducted investigations both internally and externally with the game industry players to identify the loopholes. In the future, we will also involve the game industry players for this investigation," he added.

However, Sonny has not been able to reveal the error gap related to the game's rating system. According to him, the problem will be known after the investigation is completed.

However, Komdigi is committed to continuing to evaluate and improve in the future, for the protection of consumers related to digital products sold and distributed in Indonesia.

"We are just running this (IGRS) in 2026, of course, we will evaluate and improve in the future, all of this is for the protection of consumers in Indonesia. So parents can make sure their children play with ratings that are appropriate for their age," concluded Sonny.
