NASA's Artemis II Mission Makes New Achievement, Astronauts Successfully Fly Far
YOGYAKARTA - The United States space agency NASA has come under fire after launching the Artemis II Mission. The mission is a continuation of Artemis I, which was launched in 2022. This second mission is considered to be the farthest space trip involving humans as rocket passengers.
Artemis II missionThe Artemis II mission is a space trip carried out by NASA. This mission involves American astronauts, namely Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch. In addition, there is also an astronaut from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) named Canadian Jeremy Hansen. The astronauts were sent into space by the Orion spacecraft.
This time NASA is pushing Orion by the SLS (Space Launch System) Rocket, which was carried out from the Kennedy Space Center on Thursday, April 2, Indonesian time. After the launch, the Orion capsule named 'Integrity' was pushed to a higher Earth orbit. After the push was made, the capsule could finally fly apart and independently, detached from its booster.
With Orion, NASA managed to complete a flyby mission around the Moon and managed to overcome the farthest side of the Moon that has never been seen from Earth. During the space trip, astronauts also managed to witness a special solar eclipse because the phenomenon can only be witnessed directly from space.
The distance traveled was also quite long, about 252,756 miles or 406,771 kilometers from Earth. This journey immediately broke the record and beat the record of Apollo 13 which was carried out in 1970.
Although considered successful, the Artemis II Mission will continue to Artemis IV which is planned to be carried out in 2028. The mission of that year is said to target astronauts to be able to land on the south pole on the Moon.
