GT World Challenge Asia 2026 is a Magnet to Attract Investors to Mandalika
JAKARTA - The 2026 GT World Challenge Asia is believed to be able to become a new magnet for investors in the Mandalika International Circuit area, in line with the increasing attractiveness of sports tourism and global exposure generated by the event.
For information, Indonesia through PT InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) will again host the GT World Challenge Asia event, which is planned to be held at the Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on May 1 to 3, 2026.
InJourney's Commercial Director, Veronica H. Sisilia, said that the 2026 GT World Challenge Asia was a strategic momentum to strengthen Mandalika's positioning as a world-class sport and entertainment destination, as well as to promote Indonesia's tourism nation branding on the global stage.
"International events such as the GT World Challenge Asia, which is attended by 46 participants from 17 countries, present a very strong global impression. We see a great opportunity to make it an effective promotional means as well as a key driver in increasing the appeal of Mandalika," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 7.
Veronica added that the global exposure not only had an impact on increasing tourist visits, but also opened up opportunities for new investment in the Mandalika area.
"In the future, this event is expected not only to raise Mandalika's position as a flagship destination, but also to make a real contribution to regional economic growth," said Veronica.
Meanwhile, Acting President Director of ITDC, Ahmad Fajar, emphasized that the consistency of the international event has created a layered economic impact or multiplier effect.
"Through the consistent implementation of international events, we see the creation of a real multiplier effect, ranging from increased occupancy, growth of MSMEs, to the opening of new investment opportunities," said Ahmad Fajar.
According to Fajar, the development of the Mandalika area is not only focused on events, but also on the development of an integrated and global standard ecosystem to make it more attractive to investors.
Furthermore, Fajar said that one of the foreign investors who entered Mandalika was from Singapore, namely Absolute Racing. They have invested in the development of the Common Luxury Garage & Workshop facility in Mandalika.
The facility is designed to support the technical and logistical needs of racing vehicles, as well as a collection of luxury cars in the circuit area.
"Like last year, where Absolut Racing has invested in building the Garage villa. We hope that for the second year, investment will also come back," he said.
Similarly, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Taufik Hidayat, assessed that this event has a strategic role in encouraging the strengthening of the national sports ecosystem as well as sports tourism as a sustainable economic sector.
"Events like this provide a space for Indonesia to show its capacity as the host of international events, as well as encourage the improvement of the quality of the sports industry and strengthen sports tourism as a strategic sector," he said.
For information, the 2026 GT World Challenge Asia is expected to feature 23 GT3 cars, 46 drivers, and participation from around 17 countries, including Japan, China, Australia, France, the United States, and Indonesia. This further confirms the position of the Mandalika International Circuit as an important part of the international motorsport calendar.
The holding of the racing event also encourages local empowerment by involving around 500 NTB local workers in various strategic roles, ranging from marshals, and hospitality, which also contribute to the smooth operation of the event.
