Honor Magic 9 Ready to Shake iPhone? ARRI Collaboration Makes Android Video Camera Level Up
JAKARTA - Honor's ambitions in the flagship segment seem to be getting more serious - this time it's not just about megapixels, but professional-grade video quality. The latest leaks say that the Honor Magic 9 series will come with a camera system that is the result of collaboration with ARRI, a big name in the global film industry.
As a context, ARRI is widely known as a manufacturer of cameras, lenses, and lighting systems used in the production of world-class films and documentaries since its inception in 1917. This means that this is not just a normal branding collaboration - but the potential for the transfer of "image science" technology from the world of cinema to consumer devices.
This cooperation was actually officially announced at the 2026 Mobile World Congress, where the two companies agreed to bring ARRI image processing technology to the next generation of smartphones.
According to a leak from tipster "Factory Manager is Guan", Honor Magic 9 will offer "incredible video capabilities", potentially even changing the old perception that Android phones are still behind the iPhone in terms of video recording.
If this claim is proven, Magic 9 could be a turning point. So far, video dominance is still held by Apple through the iPhone line. However, Honor seems to want to challenge the status quo with a more cinematic approach.
Honor CEO Li Jian even hinted that this new camera system has the potential to surpass Apple's current camera performance - a bold claim that will certainly be put to the test once the official device is released.
Interestingly, the focus on this video is also believed to have a positive impact on photography. "If a device can handle video well, usually the quality of the photos also increases," is the view circulating among industry analysts.
Outside the camera sector, the Honor Magic 9 is also expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset based on the 2nm process from TSMC, which promises a surge in performance as well as power efficiency.
The series is rumored to launch in October, in close proximity to the release schedule of the latest generation of iPhones. This timing is clearly not a coincidence - Honor is ready to enter the ring at the busiest moment.
For now, everything is still just a rumor. However, if the collaboration with ARRI is really realized according to expectations, Honor Magic 9 is not just about high specifications - but an attempt to redefine the standard of video quality on Android smartphones.
