Government Targets to Operate 400 Thousand People's Houses This Year

JAKARTA - The government will significantly increase the people's home surgery program in 2026 with a target of renovating 400 thousand units of houses throughout Indonesia.

Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait or Ara said the increase in the program was a direct order from President Prabowo Subianto to accelerate the provision of decent housing for the community.

"There are strategic steps to increase the surgery of people's houses. It is being prepared together with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of State Secretary, and the Secretary of the Cabinet to renovate people's houses throughout Indonesia. Last year it was 45 thousand houses, this year 400 thousand houses," said Ara as reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 6.

In addition to increasing the number of units, Ara said, the scope of the program will also be expanded nationwide.

He said that last year there were 220 regencies/cities that had not received the home surgery program. In 2026, the government ensured that all regencies/cities would receive the program.

According to him, the home surgery program is not only aimed at providing decent housing, but also encouraging economic equality in the region.

"So this is a very significant program and will drive the economy and also be fair," said Ara.

The government also received instructions from President Prabowo to utilize state land in urban areas, especially assets owned by state-owned enterprises (BUMN) railways for the construction of people's flats (rusun).

In recent days, Ara together with the ranks of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and BP BUMN have reviewed a number of potential land, including in the Tanah Abang area, Jakarta.

The land will be developed into vertical housing with a mixed concept between low-income and middle-income groups so that an inclusive residential area is created.

"Then also in Bandung, I have reported with the President Director of the Railway, we have also combed several potential land that is very potential. At the end of this month, we will start together with the President Director of the Railway to prepare for construction in the city of Bandung," he said.
