EU Says Attacks on Iran Energy Infrastructure Illegal
JAKARTA - President of the European Union Council Antonio Costa emphasized that attacks on Iran's energy infrastructure are illegal and unacceptable.
"After five weeks of war in the Middle East, it is clear that only a diplomatic solution can solve the root of the problem. Any attack on civilian infrastructure, especially energy facilities, is illegal and unacceptable... The Iranian civilian population is the main victim of the Iranian regime," Costa said, quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik, Monday, April 6.
According to him, the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East will not bring peace.
The European Union urged Iran to immediately stop attacks on countries in the region and allow full freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"Escalation will not result in a ceasefire or peace. Only negotiations can achieve this, especially through the efforts currently led by regional partners," said Costa.
