72 Students Poisoned by MBG in Duren Sawit, DKI DPRD Demands Total Evaluation of SPPG
JAKARTA - A mass food poisoning incident has occurred again in the East Jakarta area. This time, dozens of students from a number of schools in the Pondok Kelapa area, Duren Sawit, became victims after consuming food from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.
The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, revealed that the incident was related to food prepared by the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) Pondok Kelapa 2. As of Saturday, April 4, 2026, 72 students are still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
This incident affected students from four schools, namely SMAN 91, SDN Pondok Kelapa 01, SDN Pondok Kelapa 09, and SDN Pondok Kelapa 07. The suspected poisoning was triggered by a spaghetti menu consumed by the students.
Secretary of the E Commission of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the PSI Faction, Justin Adrian Untayana, assessed this incident as a serious alarm for the implementation of the MBG program in the field.
"This is already the umpteenth mass poisoning. Again, our children are the victims, and it is suspected that this is caused by the negligence of irresponsible individuals," Justin told reporters, Monday, April 6.
Justin asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government not to stand idly by and immediately coordinate with the authorities to thoroughly investigate the cause of the incident.
"First, the DKI Provincial Government must coordinate with the authorities to investigate this incident. It is important to pursue so that the public gets clarity about what happened so that there is no speculation and the authorities can immediately prosecute whoever is responsible," he explained.
He also highlighted the importance of the active involvement of the DKI Provincial Government in overseeing the MBG program, even though the program is a central government policy. According to him, the implementation in the Jakarta region remains the responsibility of the region.
Justin reminded, without serious improvement in the management of the MBG kitchen, similar cases could potentially continue to occur. "This is not the first time and will not be the last time if there is no significant improvement in the future. There will always be children who are poisoned again if the management of the MBG kitchen is not improved," he continued.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need for cross-departmental collaboration in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government environment, ranging from the Education Office, Health Office, to the Food Security, Marine and Agriculture Office.
"Here, colleagues from the Health Office, Education Office, and DKPKP can be involved by being sent down to supervise all SPPGs periodically. The goal is to ensure the quality of the food, including its nutritional content in the proper quality, check the management of the kitchen, and supervise the distribution," concluded Justin.
