Hundreds of Houses in Bengkulu City Submerged in Flood After Heavy Rain

BENGKULU - Due to moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds since Sunday evening (5/4) caused hundreds of houses in Bengkulu City to be flooded with different water levels.

In Tanjung Jaya and Tanjung Agung villages, the water level has been observed to be more than one meter, so that a number of residents have secured valuables to higher places.

"The water started to rise last night (5/4) and until now it is still high. In some places it has even been more than one meter, our residents have been forced to save their belongings to safer places," said the head of RT I Tanjung Jaya Village, Bengkulu City, Herman, reported by ANTARA, Monday, April 6.

He said one of the causes of the high water discharge was due to heavy rain and water shipments from neighboring districts which caused flooding in the area.

For this reason, he asked the Bengkulu City Government (Pemkot) to dredge the Bengkulu River, so that the flow of water can be smoother and reduce the risk of flooding later.

In addition, he hopes that the government will provide assistance in the form of food and drinks to the community affected by the flood, because at this time the daily activities of the community are paralyzed due to the flood and residents cannot work or carry out normal activities due to access being submerged in water.

Until now, a number of residents are still staying in the middle of the flood while waiting for the condition to improve and hope for a quick handling from the government and related parties so that the impact of flooding does not spread further and the basic needs of the community can be met immediately.

In addition to Tanjung Jaya and Tanjung Agung villages, flooding also occurred in Korpri housing, Ejuka housing, Rawa Makmur village.

Then, Jalan Gedang Village, Sukamerindu Village, Kebun Beler Village, Rawa Makmur Permai Village, Sawah Lebar Village, Nusa Indah Village, Kebun Tebeng Village, Lingkar Barat Village, Jembatan Kecil Village, and others.
