2 Elderly Victims of Pelembang Flood Evacuated to Hospital, BPBD: Sick Condition

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel) evacuated two elderly residents (elderly) who were victims of flooding due to heavy rainfall in the city, on Sunday, April 5.

Head of the Palembang BPBD, Ahmad Furqon, said the victim was evacuated to the Palembang Bari Regional General Hospital (RSUD).

"The victim was indeed in a state of illness, when reviewed by Mr. Wali Ratu Dewa. Therefore, when his house was flooded, the victim needed intensive care," he said in Palembang, Monday, quoted by Antara,

He added that the flood in Palembang City due to heavy rainfall caused 40 points of the flooded area with water levels as high as the knees of adults.

However, he was grateful that there were no casualties due to the flood. He urged the people of Palembang City to increase vigilance against natural disasters due to unpredictable weather.

As for flood handling operations, the Palembang BPBD deployed three rubber boats and a number of officers.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Palembang Ratu Dewa reviewed a number of flood points starting from Demang Street, Kambang Iwak, Angkatan 45, Simpang 5 DPRD, Arivai to Kasnariansyah.

"I have instructed all regional device organizations (OPD) and sub-district heads to check directly to the field to ensure that the conditions of the people affected by the flood are safe and secure," said Ratu Dewa.
