OpenAI Brings ChatGPT to Cars, Voice Mode Available on Apple CarPlay

JAKARTA - OpenAI announced that ChatGPT is now available on Apple CarPlay, allowing users to access the voice-based AI assistant directly from the vehicle's infotainment screen while driving.

In its announcement on X, OpenAI said that ChatGPT's voice mode can now be used "on-the-go" via CarPlay.

This feature is being rolled out gradually to iPhone users running iOS 26.4 or later in vehicles that have supported CarPlay.

"ChatGPT is now available on CarPlay. The voice mode you know, is now available anywhere. Launched for iPhone users running iOS 26.4+ that support CarPlay," wrote the announcement.

With this integration, users can interact with ChatGPT hands-free, such as asking questions, requesting summaries of information, to composing message replies without having to open their phones.

ChatGPT is now available in CarPlay.

In the shared photo, the conversation mode with the "Speaking" indicator on the CarPlay screen is visible. This means that the system will listen to voice commands and provide answers directly during the trip.

The response is then delivered via the vehicle's audio, so as to keep the driver's focus on the road.

The presence of ChatGPT on CarPlay marks an expansion of the use of generative AI into the vehicle ecosystem.

In addition to navigation and entertainment functions, car infotainment systems can now also be used as conversation assistants to help with real-time information needs.
