JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional III Palembang Division recorded the South Sumatra Integrated Cross-Country Transport (LRT) carrying 1,084,242 passengers in the first quarter of 2026.

Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Divre III Palembang Aida Suryanti said that the average daily user count reached 12,047 passengers, which reflected the increasing public confidence in this modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly urban transportation mode.

The increase in passenger numbers is not only influenced by routine community activities such as schools and work, but also a number of other momentum.

"The increase in passenger numbers is influenced by the long weekend holiday, school holidays, and the 2026 Eid transport period which significantly encourages community mobility," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, April 5.

During the Lebaran transportation period on March 22-25, 2026, the South Sumatra LRT adjusted its services by increasing the frequency of travel to 102 trips per day to accommodate the surge in passengers.

In the last five years, the trend of South Sumatra LRT user growth in the first quarter has shown consistent growth, since 2022 as many as 536,361 passengers, then increased to 857,723 passengers in 2023, then 908,622 passengers in 2024, continued to 1,009,737 passengers in 2025, and 1,084,242 passengers in 2026.

According to Aida, this achievement strengthens support for the National Movement Back to Public Transportation (GNKAU) which was initiated by the Palembang City Government to reduce congestion and emissions.

KAI Divre III Palembang together with the South Sumatra Light Rail Management Office continue to strengthen synergy in providing reliable, safe, and sustainable public transportation services.

He said that through the improvement of service quality and intermodal integration, the South Sumatra LRT is expected to continue to be the main choice of the public in supporting efficient and environmentally friendly urban mobility.
