MUI strongly condemns IDF attack on UNIFIL: "This is an abuse of the UN symbol!"
JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, launched a harsh criticism of the escalation of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) military aggression in Lebanon.
Israel's latest attack targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) facilities, including the shooting of surveillance cameras and an attack that killed TNI soldiers, was considered a serious form of provocation that could not be tolerated.
Erosion of the Total Law of International Law
According to Prof. Sudarnoto, the IDF's actions are a clear evidence of harassment against the authority of the international community. He highlighted three dangerous signals from this escalation:
Erosion of International Law: The IDF is considered to no longer respect the norms of protection of peacekeepers and civilian facilities. UN Credibility Test: The attack on UNIFIL is a direct challenge to the UN. If there is no firm response, this will set a bad precedent for other world conflicts. Normalization of Violence: There is an attempt to make the military force the main tool for political settlement, ignoring the humanitarian principle."Israeli aggression does not recognize borders, both geographically and legally. This is a systematic pattern of using military force without feeling responsible for international humanitarian law," said Prof. Sudarnoto in his statement to VOI Sunday, April 5.
Call for a Global Embargo and Alienate the US
MUI also highlighted the role of the United States, which is considered the main supporter (backbone) of Israel's military actions. Prof. Sudarnoto urged concrete steps from the world community to stop this violence.
"There needs to be a strengthening of the global coalition to cripple Israel and America. One way is through a global embargo," he said.
Furthermore, MUI invites peace-loving countries to take bold diplomatic steps, including:
Expelling the Embassy: Breaking diplomatic relations by expelling the Israeli and US embassies. Civil Support: Supporting the American people who are fighting against their government's authoritarian policies. Diplomatic Isolation: Following the steps of several European countries to dare to isolate the US position on the international stage.Until now, Israel's aggression is reported to continue in Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, to the West Bank. MUI emphasized that the world should not stand by and watch the systematic destruction of the principles of neutrality and humanitarian protection that have long been upheld by the United Nations.
