Indonesia Holds Thailand Draw, Egy Maulana Et Al Are Still The Key Players For The Group
JAKARTA - Minister of Youth and Sports, Zainudin Amali, said he was happy with the achievement of the Indonesian national team which held Thailand to a draw in the 2022 World Cup Qualification Group G match at the Al Maktoum Stadium, Dubai, last Thursday night local time.
"We are pleased. This is the result of a short training program, but it has already shown results", said Zainudin as quoted by Antara, Friday, June 4.
Zainudin was proud of the performances of the young players who were still playing minimally in international matches but were able to appear full of enthusiasm against Thailand.
According to Zainudin, the performance of the young players against Thailand yesterday was a good asset in facing the 2021 Vietnam SEA Games which will be held next November.
"The majority of them are those prepared by Shin Tae-yong for the 2021 SEA Games. Thanks to the national team, coach Shin Tae-yong and PSSI", he said.
Indonesia pocketed one point from the 2-2 draw against Thailand in the Asian zone 2022 World Cup Qualification Group G after the Garuda squad had always lost in the previous five matches.
Even though they already have one point, Egy Maulana and his friends currently still occupy the caretaker of the group.
However, Indonesia can still get additional points through the final two matches, namely against Vietnam on Monday, June 7 before meeting the host team, the United Arab Emirates on Friday, June 11.
