F-15 Fighter Jet Crashed by Iran, US is Busy Looking for the Pilot of the Aircraft
JAKARTA - US fighter jets reportedly fired at several areas in Kohgiluyeh, Iran, while searching for a US fighter jet pilot who crashed there, Tasnim reported on Sunday (5/4), as quoted by Antara from Anadolu.
Citing a military source, the news agency said the attack targeted a number of locations believed to be where the pilot was.
According to sources, the attack was carried out because the US was desperate and lost hope of being able to evacuate the pilot in a rescue operation.
It was also said that the US "did not tell the whole truth" about the pilot and Iranian authorities would not reveal whether the pilot had been detained.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Friday that it had shot down a fighter plane in central Iran with its air defense system.
US media then reported that the plane in question was an F-15 fighter jet and one of its pilots was rescued. Meanwhile, a rescue operation was deployed to search for the other pilot.
The US and Israel launched a joint air strike against Iran on February 28 which has so far killed 1,340 people, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran then retaliated with a barrage of missiles on Israel as well as areas in Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states hosting US military assets.
The retaliatory attack claimed lives, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and flights.
